Photo @jasonedwardsng Echidna are one of only two egg-laying mammals in the world, the other being the Platypus. These fascinating animals are known as Monotremes and have evolved to survive in two distinct habitats. The Echidna ranges from the arid heart of Australia all the way to the forested mountains. Whereas, the Platypus is solely aquatic living a secretive life in rivers, lakes and freshwater ponds. This young individual was so intent on foraging he bumped right into my lens! . Photo by @sandesh_kadur // Can’t get more adorable than this - a pudgy little clouded leopard kitten wondering what all the fuss is about. I followed these cubs as they grew up from little fur balls until two years later, they were released back into their jungle home. All this the subject of a documentary for @natgeowild titled #returnofthecloudedleopards Follow me @sandesh_kadur for more behind the scenes images from the wild.

@sandesh_kadur with assistant camera cub in training. Always fun going through an old archive of images. Here’s one that should’ve been posted on Throwback Thursday. One of the orphaned Clouded leopard ‘cubs’ decides to climb onto my tripod! Lucky it didn’t get too much of a pawhold! This is a behind the scenes image from the documentary Return of the Clouded leopard 2013 Follow @sandesh_kadur for more behind the scenes images from the wild.
Photo by @amivitale // Mary Lengees is one of the dedicated keepers caring for orphaned elephants at Reteti Elephant Sanctuary (@r.e.s.c.u.e), the first indigenous-owned and run elephant sanctuary in northern Kenya. She is one of the first indigenous Samburu women elephant keepers in all of Africa. Today, @r.e.s.c.u.e has a total of 7 women keepers. The community is excited to hear what these women have accomplished, and rush to them when they return home to learn news of each of the elephants in their care. Empowering women is crucial to counteract the increasing pressure placed on this fragile landscape. @r.e.s.c.u.e is opening a door to a world of possibilities where women are equally entitled to working on their own land and protecting their own wildlife. @r.e.s.c.u.e is changing the way these communities relate to wildlife, and this brings a sense of pride and responsibility to the women working at the sanctuary. They know that by caring for the elephants, their efforts are reducing poaching and human-wildlife conflict. Read my @natgeo story "Warriors Who Once Feared Elephants Now Protect Them" and follow @r.e.s.c.u.e @conservationorg and @amivitale to support and learn more about this initiative. @kenyawildlifeservice @nrt_kenya @tusk_org @sandiegozoo @thephotosociety @natgeoimagecollection #protectelephants #bekindtoelephants #DontLetThemDisappear #elephants #saveelephants #stoppoaching #kenya #northernkenya #magicalkenya #whyilovekenya #africa #everydayafrica #photojournalism #amivitale #savetheelephantday

Photo by @CristinaMittermeier | I followed this king penguin on the beach of St. Andrews, South Georgia when it came across a washed-up piece of krill. One of my favorite birds, king penguins are full of personality and are a delight to photograph as you can always count on them for a laugh. I chuckled as I watched this penguin closely inspect the krill, appearing dumbfounded by the sight, as if it had never seen such a thing before. #FollowMe at @CristinaMittermeier for more photos of penguins. #KingPenguin #Antarctica #SouthGeorgia #wildlife #nature
Photo by @sandesh_kadur A Crested Caracara lands on a beach in remote north-eastern Mexico. One of my favourite birds 🦅 on the coast these raptors had attitude disproportionate to their size. I saw them taking on birds much larger than them on the beach. Here’s one landing with its wings outstretched walking towards a turkey vulture to scare it away from a piece of dead fish. #birdwatching #mexico #felisimages #natgeowild
Photo By @agoetzfilm Role models are important for young calves learning what it takes to be an elephant, whether it's how to use your trunk to throw dirt to cool down, or how to forage for the right food. It's amazing to watch young elephants copy the adults as they grow and learn, just like humans. This elephant calf studied mom shaking dirt off grass before eating it, and began copying her and trying to do the same. To see more wildlife, follow me @agoetzfilm! #natgeo #nationalgeographic #natgeowild #elephants #elephant
